All utilities in Teakwood Plantation are installed underground except, of course, for satellite services.
We also recently added below info on a couple of garbage/waste collection services. Alternatively, you can take most types of household garbage to one of the Anderson County "convenience centers." For more info on this do-it-yourself option, review the Anderson County info flyer by clicking here.
Teakwood is served by these primary utility companies:
AT&T (formerly Bellsouth) for telephone (they also used to provide DSL internet service, but not sure they are still offering it for new connections)
Charter Spectrum for high-speed internet, TV and digital phone
Duke Energy for home electricity and neighborhood streetlights
Fort Hill Natural Gas Authority
Sandy Springs Water District.
There is no public sewer system serving Teakwood, meaning you will need a septic tank system for your residence.
For television service, your options include Charter Spectrum cable, or satellite providers like DirecTV and Dish Network, or internet-based TV services like Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu, etc.. Note that if you choose to just watch free, over-the-air broadcasts from the major TV networks in Greenville, SC and Ashville, NC, you will probably need an external TV antenna to receive all the major networks considering the distance to the TV signal towers.
For internet service, you can select from Charter Spectrum high-speed cable internet service (100+ mbps download speed and about 5 mbps upload) or AT&T's DSL service if you can still get it (see note above on AT&T, and the max download speed was 6 mbps). You can also try a satellite service like ViaSat's or rely on wireless service from mobile phone companies like Verizon or AT&T, but be mindful of data caps with these some of these.
As of Feb. 2018, DSL service may no longer be available for new service. Several residents moving into Teakwood in the past year or two were denied DSL service due to "no additional ports or connections" available. But many residents have moved to Charter's internet service, so DSL service may be available now if you really want it.
Spectrum offers cable modem internet service, and it is pretty fast and pretty reliable. The standard download speeds are quoted at 200 mbps and generally exceed that slightly, and upload speeds are quoted at 10 mbps and generally exceed that. Higher bandwidth rates may be available, but the standard service seems pretty strong.
At the March 2023 annual HOA meeting, Board Member Pam Lee stated:
:...offered no set-up fees with at least a 12-month service for a flat rate of $17 monthly. Pickup is on Fridays."
Subsequent to the HOA meeting, HOA member Nancy L. contacted The Green Man and provided this additional info:
"I just spoke to Russell at The Green Man trash company, and was ready to change trash companies per the announcement you made at our HOA meeting, but he said he told you the price of $17/month would be only if 15 people from our subdivision signed up for their services. He said I was the first person to call, so I did not change companies yet. He said if he had 10 people sign up, he could pick up the trash for $20/month. He said each person would receive one cart, and if you needed a 2nd cart, it was $15 for the extra garbage cart. Our trash pick up day will also be on Friday, just like we currently have at GFL.... Without these amounts, it will be $25/month, and no reason to make the change."
